Spring Hill Day Camp

As many of you know, Joe so wanted to go to camp with his brothers last week. Well, the week of July 23rd, he will be going to Spring Hill day camp at Oakpointe Church in Novi. His speech teacher at school Debbie Galloway is a member there and has mentioned it to me in the past and last week, Ryan's mom mentioned that Ryan was going and it might be nice if Joe went too. So, after talking to the people there it looks like Joe and Ryan will be sharing a one on one helper for the week just to give them extra support. What's even better is that maybe just maybe next year he can go to the actual overnight Spring Hill camp. After talking to the director there, they have an excellent program that includes all kids no matter what their needs are. Their philosophy is that kids with disabilities should be at the same camp with all the other kids. They will do what it takes to make it work for the kids. You can check it out at www.springhillcamps.com

Staff Selection
We have searched the country high and low for the most amazing and caring staff just for your child. We strive to find a staff that is spiritually, mentally and emotionally mature to ensure that not only is your child in good hands, but in good hearts. Each staff member has been personally interviewed, reference checked and background checked before they even set foot on the property. Once here, they receive from 40-80 hours of intensive job specific training. In every area, safety is our first concern for your child, so every activity is checked and double-checked.

Educational Method
We want your child to have the best experience during their week at camp so we keep our counselor to camper ratio to one counselor for every seven campers. For our younger campers, that ratio is even lower: one counselor to every five campers. Our counselors and activity staff use a variety of methods to appropriately communicate spiritual truths, including morning devotions, skits, teachable moments, interactive Bible lessons, and campfires.

Inclusion
Part of our mission at SpringHill Camps is to let every kid who wants to come to camp come. No matter what. You won't find a separate camp at SpringHill for kids with special needs. The SpringHill experience is designed for all children with varied abilities. We will do whatever it takes to allow your camper to have a fulfilling camp experience including providing specially trained staff, transportation and specific housing if needed.

Core Values
We are about Jesus and His message.

We are about children, teens and young adults.

We think "lost" and "how can we reach them?"

We are committed to being relevant, having personal loving and caring relationships and exceeding expectations.

SpringHill's Mission is to change the lives of young people by creating environments and developing communities in which they experience the message of Jesus Christ within the context of personal loving relationships and memorable learning experiences.

Cathie and I were super impressed with Spring Hill and the way they do camp. Joe would dig it and I'm sure they'll do an awesome job with him.

I'm SO excited for Joe! That's super cool! And, I couldn't agree more (as you know) that kids with "disabilities" should be with their "typical" peers!! Way to go! Have LOADS of fun, Joe!!!
