I know that the title of this post sounds yummy but the truth is, it isn't.
It still takes me off guard when something so simple as a swirl of strawberry in vanilla ice cream and some scary looking clowns could cause such a scene.
Our last night here in Cancun is most certainly memorable. Joe had a complete melt down at dinner tonight because not only did they put strawberry swirl in his ice cream, the scary clowns that totally freak him out showed up. I could have never foreseen his meltdown but now that I've had time to look back and have a good cry in the bathroom, I understand why this happened to my little man and what I could have done differently to have avoided it.
If you have a 3 year old having a meltdown in a restaurant full of people, it's embarrassing, if you have a 85 lb. 9 year old with unique needs having a meltdown, it's humiliating to say the least. You have other patrons of the restaurant looking at you as if somehow you've created a monster and you have well meaning family members making suggestions as to the proper punishment you should handout.
We leave on the 9:56 flight out of Cancun tomorrow morning with wonderful memories of a great 11 days and this is but just one difficult night. But it was an all to familiar reminder that even wonderful trips to Mexico can't change the obvious.
My prayer tonight is for more patience, compassion and acceptance of all.

Anne, YOU are the answer to Joe's prayers---------Jim
Dear Anne,
sorry if I intrude as always and if I understood right you should have punished Joe, but I think that "the proper punishment" you should handout was for the people staring at you....
Life is not easy, I had my share, but it would be easier if people could be a bit nicer and understanding.
Have a nice trip back.
