Today was Joe's Halloween parade and party. It started at 10:00 and I had to take Molly to Dina's (Bob's cousin and Molly's groomer) at 9:30. I put Molly in the car in the back seat and put the window down just a little bit. I've always been afraid of her falling out by accident so I give her just enough room to smell the fresh air. Anyway, I'm driving down 5 mile rd approaching Farmington where Dina's Furs a Flyin dog salon is and I look over and Molly jumps, yes, jumps out the window. Now you need to know the window was only open enough for her to be able to get her head through at least I thought so. I'm driving probably around 35 mphs at the time and I slam on my breaks. I jump out of my car in the middle of 5 mile rd and run over to the other side of the car and no Molly. By this time, all the cars have stopped and I look over and Molly is over at the open car door of some man who happened to stop when he saw Molly jump out. He called to her and she ran over to his car and he grabbed her by the collar and held onto her until I got over to get her. There wasn't a mark on her and she didn't appear to have any injuries. Thank God. All I could imagine was having to tell the kids that I killed their dog. Well, I made it to Joe's parade just five minutes late and spent an hour in his class. He did such an awesome job today and I'm so glad I was there to see what goes on during his time at school. I was pleasantly surprised that he interacts pretty well with the other kids and the boys who sit around him were so great and helpful to Joe with the project they were working on. A couple of girls were flirting with him during the parade too. Joe doesn't have his own one on one aid and I've always been unsure if it was something that I wanted for him, but today with me being there and just supervising him and helping him just a little, he did so great. So, next time I'm told that Joe doesn't quiet fit into the classroom setting,I will tell them that maybe his IEP should be revamped and he should have his own aid.(if anyone read this blog last night, I was pretty worked up and put a few things in here that one of my boys (wont mention any names) said wasn't appropriate and not necessary. This is our family blog so I agreed and deleted some of my entry. Now having said that, I still feel the same way. Joe wanted to make sure that I mentioned that his buddy Austin is the one in the fireman costume! Austin is such a sweet kid.
Tonight, Bobby has a huge project for school and Mike is at Chase's house passing out candy. So, Joe went out trick or treating with Billy and Lindsay(girl nextdoor) and about 10 of Chris' high school friends tonight and he had such a blast. He is on cloud nine and feels like such a hot shot tonight. Just one of the boys!

good girl thats our favorite word say it loud! lol
He's adorable and he's lucky he's got a mom that will keep the school on their toes! Keep reminding them that he has amazing STRENGTHS to build on! Let's hear it for what he CAN do well!! Enjoy the victories...even if you have to go witness them with your own eyes!
When my Joe was in second grade we were called to school and told they wanted to observe and test him because they felt Joe was not up to his classmates. After the panel did testing and observed him, we were told that at best we should expect only marginal potential from him. In other words if we chose to belive them Joe had a job at McDonalds to look forward to. Joe did struggle in school but as he grew he adapted and learned skills that not only kept him up with his class but in his senior year graduate on the honor roll. Joe spent last summer in Texas taking Officer training classes. He graduated second from the top of his class. I know it's not easy dear sister but your doing a great job. I truly believe that our kids adapt skills over time to deal with whatever challenges they have. Joe is so blessed to have you and Bob as parents. Hold on sister
